Drawing and Painting I is a studio course in which students will develop the ability to create and discuss visual works of art. Emphasis will be placed on two-dimensional art, such as drawing and painting, as well as the utilization of art history as a guideline for practice and theory.
This course will focus on the elements and principles of design as the foundation for the creation of two-dimensional art forms. Students will be introduced to and explore the concepts of basic color theory, composition, and perspective. We will also study the fundamentals of basic figure and portrait drawing, as well as non-objective design. Students will use Understanding Art by Gene Mittler and Rosalind Ragansas as the required text/reference.
All school-wide and classroom rules will be observed upon entering the classroom. Students are expected to show respect for one another, the teacher, student art projects, and classroom materials and environment. Students are expected to participate in classroom discussions and studio activities. Students are expected to work to the best of their abilities on every given assignment.
Students are given sufficient time to complete all assigned projects. All projects must be completed in full in order to receive a complete grade for each marking period. Students will exhibit their work in the high school and/or community art shows.
Marking Period Grading:
Assessments (i.e. major art projects, quizzes) 70%
Assignments (i.e. studio work, sketch assignments, homework) 30%
Complete, sign and submit bottom portion to teacher. Cut top portion and retain for your records. ______________________________________________________________________________
